Home ReSource - What We Do PDF Print E-mail

The Problem:

Every year hundreds of tons of otherwise useful materials are simply sent to the landfill because there is no mechanism to recycle these materials and make them available for reuse.

This problem is especially prominent in the Yampa Valley where the construction industry is one of the largest segments of the local economy.

Frequent remodels, "scrape offs", and new home construction are generating a tremendous volume of waste, much of it potentially reusable or recyclable.

The Solution:

Step 1:

Home ReSource encourages the public and businesses to de-construct buildings rather than demolish them.

Step 2:

Home ReSource offers a place for owners to donate salvaged materials and receive a tax deduction which offsets most or all of the cost of deconstruction.
Reusing the materials keeps them out of landfills and saves natural resources.

Step 3:

Home ReSource offers the salvaged materials for sale to the public at a discounted rate.
The income from the sales is used to fund the organization.

Home ReSource and Wheels Bike Shop are Giving Bikes Back!

Gasoline prices are on the rise.

Finally there is increased interest in reducing our carbon footprint, becoming more earth conscious and more environmentally aware. The trends in Steamboat reflect this new trend. Waste Management recycles nearly 400 tons of materials a month, having successfully implemented a single stream recycling program in Steamboat.

The Chamber of Commerce’s “Sustainable Steamboat Business Program” recognizes companies that are going above and beyond to show leadership in green business practice. Home ReSource, which has gone from being Dave Epstein's dream to a thriving non-profit business, co-sponsored by the Community Alliance of the Yampa Valley. HR is diverting reusable materials from the landfill and making them available to our community for reuse and did $42,000 in gross revenue last year!

This mission is precisely what has inspired Home ReSource's most recent project: Giving Bikes Back .

This program is aimed to get both adults and children, especially those in need, on bicycles to help reduce our dependence on oil. This program, will involve our community in effectively recycling and refurbishing bikes and sending them back to the community, so that they may be utilized. Community members have donated over 100 bicycles, so far.

Volunteers have refurbished over 50 bicycles. Wheels and Orange Peel bike shops have also volunteered their time and materials in this effort. Partners in Routt County, Lift-Up of Routt County, The Boys and Girls Club in Craig and Cultivating Community are recipients of these bike. Other non-profit organizations have expressed interest.

Do you have a bike to donate (tax deductible)? Would you like to volunteer? Contact Home ReSource for more information.
